A Post-to-Post Walk Benefiting
the Milwaukee VA Suicide Prevention Outreach
The VA’s top clinical priority is preventing suicide among all Veterans — including those who do not, and may never, seek care within the VA health care system. The Milwaukee VA Suicide Prevention Team consists of three licensed clinical social workers and one licensed psychologist. They all have special training in mental health and suicide prevention, along with a wealth of experience and expertise. Team members encourage Veterans, their friends and family, to be mindful of how world and personal events may affect Veterans’ mental health. The team has seen an increase in referrals and consults, especially from Veterans who served in Afghanistan. The Southeastern Task Force was formed in November 2019 with more than 25 community agencies as a component of the VA’s Suicide Prevention plan which is focused on developing community coalitions to develop action plans to prevent Veteran suicides.
